Digital Transfer / CAD CUT Printing

How it’s done

An image is printed onto a specially coated transfer vinyl using a wide format printer. This is allowed to dry and then returned back through the machine, which cuts the vinyl to shape using a cutting blade.

Once the design or text has been cut it’s then weeded out (removed) manually. Once the excess vinyl is removed you’re left with your design which is then heat pressed onto the garment for 10-15 seconds.

Digital transfer printing is very popular for use on Stag and Hen do’s, charity events and other “one off” jobs. This is due to the inexpensive nature of the print method - as it is the most economic form of printing for smaller quantities.

The quality of the finished result is largely dependent on the quality of the original image supplied which is why we recommend you always supply us with print ready files, such as vector based artwork (.eps,.ai, .crd files) on Adobe illustrator CS4 or CorelDRAW X5. Otherwise high resolution .jpg files at least 300dpi and 100% of intended print size. We also accept .psd files on Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Modern vinyls are pretty tough and durable, they bond firmly to the garment and with a little care will last well.

Pros

  • Bold and vibrant full colour images ie. Photograghs, detailed and block images are ideal for this method
  • More viable print locations ie. Shoulders, sleeves, collars
  • Can be used on nylon and polyesters ie. Waterproof jackets, lycra leisurewear
  • No set up costs so ideal for individual names and numbers and smaller jobs
  • Perfect for teamwear printing ie. Numbers, Names and Sponsors logo's. For more info click here

Cons

  • Not suitable for quantities over 25 (Screen printing or DTG would be advised here)
  • Not suitable for oversized prints as result can be ‘bulky’

CAD Cut Transfer Printing

How it’s done

CAD Cut Transfer Printing is a cut only method. There is no printwork undertaken. Once the design or text has been cut it’s then weeded out (removed) manually. Once the excess vinyl is removed you’re left with your design which is then heat pressed onto the garment for 10-15 seconds.

It is great for single colour designs, and especially for individual names, and numbers. This technique is used extensively on sports and team wear ie. football shirts.

A plus to this print method is that there are a huge array of colours available - ranging from standard colours, high visibility, fluorescents, foils for metallic print effect and also flock velvet effects. There are no set-up costs and it’s the cheapest printing technique available for low quantity orders.

With Digital transfer printing and CAD cut vinyl printing it's not always possible to match colours in your artwork exactly, therefore we can't guarantee an exact match and are unable to offer a refund if the printed garment colours do not match the artwork. This is because some artwork maybe designed in an *RGB mode and colour will differ as we print in **CMYK. For CAD Cut Vinyl there are select colours to choose from.

*RGB - Red Green Blue    **CMYK - Cyan Magenta Yellow Black
